Selah Rhythms

Through the insight and guidance of a variety of authors and pastors, Jennifer White, John Piper, Lynn Smith and Jeff Dixon, here are a few ways to prayer as you read the scripture.

Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes so that I may contemplate wonderful things from Your instruction.

Pray that …

1. God would teach us his Word.

Psalm 119:12b Lord ,may You be praised; teach me Your statutes.

2. God would make us understand his Word.

Psalm 119:27 Help me understand the meaning of Your precepts so that I can meditate on Your wonders.

Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart.

3. God would direct our hearts to his Word.

Psalm 119:35 Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.

4. God would turn my eyes away from worthless things.

Psalm 119:36 Turn my heart to Your decrees and not to material gain. [dishonest] gain.

Psalm 119:37 Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless; give me life in Your ways.

5. God would establish our steps in his Word.

Psalm 119:133 Make my steps steady through Your promise; don’t let any sin dominate me.

6. God would seek us when we go astray from his Word.

Psalm 119:176 I wander like a lost sheep; seek Your servant, for I do not forget Your commands.
