Summer Preview

Summer Preview

We are in the very beginning of what is appearing to be a beautiful summer here in Nashville. Nashville has a summer rhythm of life that slows down just a little and enjoys the season immensely. Movies in the park, concerts all over the city, travels to the mountains, and many afternoons relaxing on the front porch await us this summer. Nashville is always an inspiring place but even more so in the summer.

Mosaic in the summertime typically mirrors this summer rhythm of slowing down, enjoying summer fun, and being less scheduled as many travel and take vacations.

So, how does Mosaic Nashville approach the summer?
Many churches, including Mosaic, encourage their communities to take a “break”. “Break” is in quotations because you don’t take a break from community, because you don’t take a break from following in the ways of Jesus.
You do take a very healthy break from many of the scheduled, more formal aspects of the community. So…here we go with a summer preview of life with Mosaic for the next two months …

“My Way Yours”
Sunday June 7th – August 2nd

mosaicnashville2-living In this series, we are examining some of the questions God asks.
Why does God do this? It isn’t because He is seeking information, because He knows all things. Rather, He asks questions as a wise counselor. He is not the one who needs answers – these questions help us to understand both God and ourselves. His questions help us see for ourselves what our real needs are, the error or inadequacy of our attempts to meet those needs, and thus they help us to want to receive His wise help.
So, join us this summer as we explore God’s questions and live in God’s Gospel, as God’s people and in God’s world.

Our prayer is that we walk away with a clearer understanding and affection for the Church, the role of the Church in the world, and how this role and mission can be accomplished with the Gospel.
Our hope is that this exploration strengthens us as we live in God’s Gospel, as God’s People and in God’s World.

Mosaic’s Community Groups are taking a Summer Sabbatical

May 19th – 21st was our last week for our Spring community groups. We plan to launch into Community Group Life again August 10th.

Within Mosaic, our common life in Christ starts at home and among friends. Mosaic will be a church of people rather than a place you go. Join in as Mosaic community groups begin their Fall sessions August 10th.

Connecting with Community this Summer

LegoPeopleWalking into a community for the first time can be a threatening thing… we try to be welcoming and helpful to everyone who comes through the door, but we recognize that it takes some times to get one’s bearings. With that in mind, here are some of the ways you can become integrated into the MOSAIC community.

Hang out before and after our gatherings on Sunday– get to know some new people, greet others, have lunch with some new people, discuss the morning and your week.

Welcome Coffee- When someone’s been around for a couple of weeks, we try to hook them up with someone who’s been around for a while for coffee, sharing stories, and just generally saying “hello.” Haven’t had your welcome coffee yet? Ready to take others out for a cup of coffee. let us know.

I have found that it is often helpful to have practical ideas to start engaging the people around me. Most of the things on this list are normal, everyday things that many people are already doing. The hope is that we would do these things with Gospel intentionality.

This means we do them: in the normal rhythms of life pursuing to meet and engage with new people, prayerfully watching and listening to the Holy Spirit to discern where God is working, and looking to boldly, humbly, and contextually proclaim the Gospel in word and deed.

Hopefully there will be several ideas on the list that God uses to help you engage with your neighbors.

• Stay outside in the front yard longer while watering the yard
• Walk your dog regularly around the same time in your neighborhood
• Sit on the front porch and let kids play in the front yard
• Invite neighbors over for dinner
• Have a game night (yard games outside, or board games inside)
• Grow a garden and give out extra produce to neighbors
• Do a summer BBQ every Friday night and invite others to contribute
• Host a sports game watching party
• Host a coffee and dessert night
• Host a movie night and discussion afterwards
• Start a walking/running group in the neighborhood
• Start hosting a play date weekly for other stay at home parents
• Have a front yard ice cream party in the summer
