Lottie Moon … her story, one of Radical Obedience

Lottie Moon was appointed a missionary to China July 7, 1873. She was a bold woman of action and radical obedience who shared the story of Jesus with her beloved Chinese to the end.

lm-life.l Lottie Moon was a pioneer. She was among the first women missionaries to China and devoted 39 years of her life sharing the Gospel and caring for the people of the Shantung province. She was fluent in six languages and was remarkable in the influence of mission work among the Chinese. She is credited with stirring up the American church to send more missionaries to China during her stint there. She died in China, weighing less than 60 pounds because she refused to eat her food portions, opting instead to share it with the women and children of her province. She died with less than $250 in her bank account, but considered her life beyond rich. At 4-feet 3-inches she was well know for her passion for all people to know Jesus saying, “How many million more souls are to pass into eternity without having heard the name of Jesus?”

Six years after her death, the Lottie Moon Christmas offering was established to aid in funding International mission work. This offering still exists for the purpose of supporting international work throughout the world.
